Interactive Installation

Dimension: variable

Year:2014

In our contemporary society, when talking about women’s identity, we limit ourselves to superficial notions of beauty that only aids in the objectification of women.

In my attempt to question this limited viewpoint, in this interactive installation, I poked the audience into thinking about the various identities of a women. I wanted to show that just like how a puzzle set has many parts where each part is essential to complete the puzzle, the varied identities of a women make who she is as a whole. Participants could complete the puzzle a reveal a woman’s true identify hidden behind her flowered mask. Once the puzzle was completed the audience could read on the screen how limiting socio-cultural systems still bind women. For instance, I projected news stories of victims of dowry system. I try to stress that these systems should not take women as commodities themselves.
